• What I’m Up To These Days

I’m determined to share more of my life in my blog this year. It’s been a back and forth proposition over the past few years. I’ve gone from full disclosure to secret anonymous personal blog to professional disclosure only to never really updating to now.

Here we are. It’s 2010. Time to stop the flip flop. I can’t share everything like I wish I could, simply because the Holy Spirit keeps forbidding me. I’m all for staying within the shelter and protection of His wings.

So, having said that. I’m in that spot several people I know are in: finding the balance between full disclosure and never blogging personal stuff.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I’ve been up to:

    Renewing My Mind

This is one of the key themes of 2010 for me. God started speaking to me about studying the mind of Christ back in 1998. Then He called me to study my grandfather’s sermons. I got the message (FINALLY) that I should renew my mind. The trouble with renewing one’s mind, I quickly found, is that a few books, Bible readings, prayers, and sermons hardly make a dent in a mind that is stuffed with 12 tv shows and hours of secular music each week.

So I made a decision: to spend a period of time giving most of that stuff up. I still watch football and I’ve gone to a couple movies, but I’ve turned at least 20 hours per week from secular mind anti-renewal to Spirit-filled solid renewal of my thoughts, desires, and motivations.

I broke free of some things slowing me down last year, which rocket propelled me into greater things in the Spirit. It’s amazing what is possible for a person with a clear conscience.

    Books I’m Currently Reading

If you’ve ever wondered what a fan of Gary Vaynerchuk and Bill Johnson would look like, the answer is…. ME! I’m going through a real churning and burning of desire right now. I want to jumpstart a blog into high gear and really start down that path toward working independently.

But no, something else must be done first. Whether it’s developing character or just simply tuning in to what is supposed to be the MAIN THING going forward, I’m in a VERY painful and frustrating holding pattern.

The Lion’s Share Goes to Family

I love my family. My wife is the greatest blessing to me outside of Jesus. Not only is she one of the most interesting people in the world, she’s also on a mission from God to rehabilitate my body from the pack-a-day, six Dr. Pepper-a-day, 3 square fast food meals-a-day genius I used to be into this increasingly healthy man you see (or don’t) before you today.

We have an AMAZING daughter. She is the most compassionate and empathetic two year old I’ve ever seen. Children truly are a gift from God, even if that gift means no personal space or energy to work out.

    The Daily Grind

I’m the most unique work situation I’ve ever been in. I love the company and the people I work with. But the sad part is I’m not using 80% of my strongest and most favorite giftings and abilities. Whenever we put on a webinar or have client meetings, I really shine. But the day to day grunt work is better suited for people with other personality types than mine. Having said that, I’m very grateful for my job and I pray God’s blessing on our company for years to come.

There you have it. My first REAL personal update of the new year.
