Lesson #3: Disciple Faithful People
My mentor gave me two assignments from the very beginning: read 2 Timothy over and over and over, and memorize 2 Timothy 2:2.
“And the things you heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable (faithful) men who will also be qualified to teach others.”
There’s a difference between fathering and mentoring. Mentoring is a part of fathering, but fathering includes more selfless giving of love to those in need, regardless of qualifications. You see, the first step of successful discipleship is to be selective of who you disciple.
A disciple should be someone already faithfully pursuing God, bearing some fruit but in need of the wisdom of someone older and more mature.
